Denpasar, home to over 700,000 residents and millions of annual tourists, faces growing traffic congestion due to 6% yearly vehicle growth and tourists’ reliance on rental cars and motorcycles. Major
roads such as Gatot Subroto, Imam Bonjol, and Teuku Umar are often
jammed, while the BRT system (Trans Sarbagita) remains limited in
coverage, integration, and scheduling. This reduces travel efficiency,
increases fuel use, and raises CO2 emissions, harming air quality, public health, sustainability, and the tourism experience.
The Smart Mobility Hub—integrating BRT, electric shuttles, bicycle lanes, and Park & Ride facilities—offers a solution to cut private vehicle use and support Bali’s low-emission tourism goals.
